The thing that makes it so impossible to escape a black hole is the force of gravity that this large amount of mass has. Not even light can escape a black hole. A way to explain this is if a particle is far away from a black hole a particle can move freely, if it closer to the black hole it will get mixed in with other particles being pulled into the black hole because of its gravity.
